Cardi B probably knows a lot more about President Franklin D. Roosevelt than you do     DATE: 2024-05-25 07:47:24

"I love government. I'm obsessed with presidents. I'm obsessed to know how the system works."

That's what Billboard chart sensation Cardi B told GQ's Caity Weaver in an extensive profile published Monday morning.

The Bronx-born rapper, who released the highly anticipated album Invasion of Privacy last week, has delivered us bangers and viral clips for the better part of a year. All of that without revealing, until now, that she knows her stuff when it comes to the history of presidents in this country.

In the feature, Cardi starts off by admitting her love of our 32nd president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Here's what she had to say about him:

"First of all," continues Cardi B, "he helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair. Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great—make America great again for real. He's the real 'Make America Great Again,' because if it wasn't for him, old people wouldn't even get Social Security."

But not only does she like him for putting his country first, Cardi also goes in on her love of Eleanor Roosevelt, the New Deal and offers up context about why FDR is, in her eyes, the best:

"Yes, from the New Deal. It was a system to get us back from the world Depression—then, on top of that, while he was president there was a fucking war going on. World War II was going on. So all this shit going on in the United States, while recouping the country from an economic tragedy, making sure that America won the war—and his wife? I would say she was almost like Michelle Obama. She was such a good humanitarian, and we both got the same birthday, Oct. 11."

But, as you should know by now, never underestimate Cardi B. Her knowledge isn't only limited to FDR. She can list all the presidents in order of their time in office, and when Weaver threw a random president at her — Buchanan — she was quick to offer up a fun fact:

"He was the 15th president," she says, and her tone is as neutral as if she were reciting types of weather. "Buchanan is the only president that was a bachelor."
