It declared to stand in the forefront to enhance inter-Korean university exchanges and counter problematic issues that surround the capital, jointly with the city government.

The institution is known for its urban science and plans to utilize its strengths to aid the government in inter-Korean cooperation issues related to urban restoration, environment, traffic and administrative fields.

Some 1,000 people took part in the ceremony including Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Rep. Ahn Gyu-baek from the liberal Democratic Party of Korea, local residents, students and university staffers.

"Not only the educational aspect, but we have also been working towards realization of societal restoration, duty, education and sharing," said Won Yun-hi, president of the University of Seoul. "We will use the last 100 years as a base and an opportunity to leap forward another 100 years."

To better prepare for the next century the institution has brainstormed with the city government, alumni and the public to establish a new vision, aimed to better adapt to the future.

The institution released 10 goals to help meet their vision, which includes inter-Korean university exchanges, means to enhance the city and ways to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

"I am honored that the University of Seoul shares history and has grown with the city," Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon said. "The institution obtains both critical and Zeitgeist ways of thinking. I hope the university could foster leaders for the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
