At approximately 1:24 a.m. ET, Bates tweeted out a goodbye to fans who'd been communicating with her throughout the evening.

This is Kathy visibly yawning and telling her house guests, "Boy, it's getting late!"

Fast forward to 3:30 a.m., and Kathy is still awake, saying g'night to Becca because Becca missed out on the Q&A. Fair.

Surely, Kathy can now rest soundly knowing she ended her day with a kind gesture.

Wrong.

At precisely 3:37 a.m., Bates finds an image of an old wombat online. She tweets about it.

Oh, Kathy, what did you do? Seeing the wombat gives the weary Bates enough energy to check her mentions.

Kathy needsto sleep. But this damn old wombat is keeping her awake.

Twitter, having an endless supply of more cute animal pics, begins to flood Bates' mentions. Kathy, unable to look away but also desperately tired, responds to several more tweets.

Note how each tweet ends with anguished declarations about sleeping.

Kathy is wearing pajamas, she is tucked into bed. Twitter is pounding on her door, screaming, "COME LOOK AT ANIMAL PICS."

It's now 4:00 a.m. ET and Kathy is desperate. The cute animals beckon her. Fans beg her for shout outs. She is simply too nice to ignore them. This is hell.

Kathy has been trying to sleep since 1:24. It is 4:02. She can't win.

At 4:03, an exasperated Kathy finally sends her last tweet.

For the love of God, Twitter, let Kathy Bates sleep.
