The @me Twitter account gets 'hundreds' of notifications per day

Your relatable tweets are proving to be a real headache for the state of Maine.

As The Daily Dotpointed out Saturday, one of the many ways people announce that they've found a tweet relatable is by at-replying the Twitter handle "@me." It's tongue-in-cheek -- a shorter way to say "that's me" or "it me."

The handle is also frequently used when someone says "don't @ me," but fails to put a space between "@" and "me." That space makes a world of difference, y'all. Isn't Twitter interesting?

Using "@me" has an unintended side effect. The handle @me is actually owned by Maine.com, a website run by a man named Teddy Worcester to advertise Maine tourism.

Worcester told The Daily Dotthat he receives "hundreds" of notifications per day -- and, as you might expect, quite a few of them have nothing to do with the wonders of Maine.

For example, a quick Twitter search tells us that Teddy has received a notification for all of these tweets:

Anyway, Maine is a beautiful state. Definitely worth a visit.
