'Euphoria' star Alexa Demie is TikTok's latest muse

It's a good thing the Season 2 finale of Euphoriais this Sunday (Feb. 27) because TikTok needs some new source material. This week, yet another Euphoria scene inspired a major trend on TikTok, while an eye color trend reminiscent of my early Tumblr days made its way onto my FYP. 

'Is this fucking play about us?'

We are hopefully in the final stretch of Euphoria meme dominance on the internet, and the latest viral trend is a(nother) line from Maddy. (As if it would be anyone else.) The most recent episode of the HBO teen drama centered around a play Lexi, the show's resident normie, wrote about her and her sister Cassie's estranged group of friends. As the camera pans to Cassie's ex-bestie Maddy, she turns to Kat and says, "Wait, is this fucking play about us?"

The sound bite of Maddy's mid-play revelation has been used in over 51,000 TikToks. People are using it to highlight a song, novel, or film they deeply relate to. My favorite video was posted by @j9k37. It reads, "people who call movies films," and pans to the movie poster of the Oscar-nominated film The Worst Person in the World. Another example of the trend is @moniqueloll’s videothat states, "me when my friend & i are laughing and the reacher randomly says 'i think i'm going to switch some seats around.'"

While she hasn't gotten a ton of screen time this season, Alexa Demie has emerged as the show's meme queen, thanks in part to her always impeccable delivery. "Bitch, you better be joking"went viral on Twitter a couple weeks ago, and "why does everybody think we fucked" has been a mainstay on TikTok since 2020.

EYE-

Just what the internet needs is another opportunity for blue- and green-eyed people to flex. The latest TikTok trend finds users filming their eyes, transitioning from their front-facing cameras (no filter) to their back cameras (with flash and the low exposure filter). It's challenging to get rightand does little to nothing to enhance brown eyes. However, when those with lighter-colored eyes do the trend the effect is pretty neat. Check out @soniuhh_'s video for an example.

Users are posting their eye transition videos to "LA SINE" by Chachiaprod, and so far over 422,000 have been uploaded. 

This trend harkens back to the early Tumblr days, as blue-and green-eye photography has long been a staple of social media. People with blue and green eyes posting pics of their dazzling irises is such a phenomenon that a meme of  Miley Cyrus’s blue eyes(in stark contrast to her black eyeliner) went viral in 2018.

Super Mario Pussy Talk

An unlikely mash-up of City Girls and Doja Cat's "Pussy Talk" and a timeless song from a Super Mariogame has become the soundtrack to TikTokkers sharing which horny celeb moments they are constantly thinking about. Over 30,000 videos have been made to the mash-up thus far.


TikTok users are taking advantage of the transparent green screen effect to fade into the clip they can't get out of their minds. Some feature funny captions like "are you even listening" before the reality of what's going on in their head is revealed. Most of the videos understandably feature Doja Cat, but every fandom has gotten in on the trend. TikTokker @audrey_arkwellposted a video of her "trying to be a good student," when she's really thinking about a Euphoria behind-the-scenes video of Alexa Demie and Sydney Sweeney dancing. Relatable!
