In other (nicer) news, the whole of New Zealand is doing a Secret Santa

The world may be a mess, but we'll always have New Zealand.

Not only does the place have stunning mountains and Taika Waititi, they also have a country-wide Secret Santa.

Started by Sam Elton-Walters in 2010 and now run by New Zealand Post, the idea is this: Sign up, get matched with a random Twitter user and give them a light stalking to figure out what gift they might like.

Then send the present to New Zealand Post, who'll forward it on in the name of holiday cheer.

Just lovely.

This year, almost 2,000 people signed up to send gifts and they are busy sleuthing. It's hard enough choosing presents for family and friends, but a complete stranger?

Maybe New Zealanders are just better people. If this took place in Australia, you can bet there'd be a lot of porn magazines being sent through the national postal service.

Just in case, the Kiwi postal service has stated "New Zealand Post accepts no responsibility for inappropriateness of gifts."

It's all good vibes, it seems. After all, the country deserves some fun after making it through recent devastating earthquakes.

And just remember. Like burning your family's christmas ham, there are no do-overs.
